A Letter from Mr. Williams
The School year has begun and I cannot tell you how excited I am to be writing this letter to you! My name is Mr. Philip Williams and I will be your child’s Physical Education teacher this year. Bellevue Public Schools has given me my first opportunity to be a teacher and I am ready to hit the ground running and teach your child. I am sure they will teach me a thing or two as well. I would like to take the time and tell you a little about myself as well as the upcoming school year.
I grew up in the middle of the state in Grand Island, Nebraska, the island that isn’t much of an island. After graduating high school I was fortunate to be offered a baseball scholarship from Doane College. While playing baseball at Doane I was able to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and Fitness Management. From Doane I decided to go and pursue my Master’s Degree. In December of 2008 I received a Masters of Education in Athletic Administration, all while helping plan my wedding. July 18th, 2009 I married the love of my life and have recently purchased a house. Most recently I finished the Education Program through Doane College which has provided me with some wonderful experiences that will help me be the best teacher I can be.
Sports and children have always been a big part of my life; from playing collegiate baseball to volunteering as a Big Brother to managing a local 24 Hour Fitness to umpiring Little League Baseball. Through my experiences and education I feel I have gained tremendous knowledge on how the body works and what motivates children. Physical Education is the exact place where I can share my knowledge while having a ton of fun. I have a little saying, “Be the best you can be! I will help you get there.” This all but sums up my teaching philosophy. I want to be a positive role model in all aspects of education and I feel that all begins with a healthy and happy lifestyle.
I plan on bringing my own twists and style to the Gym. I will allow my students to help me come up with a few rules and policies they want to follow. I will introduce technology in the Gym and I will really focus on the fitness aspects of why we do the stuff we do in P.E. Through my experiences working at a fitness center I have come to learn that it is not the 30-60 minutes one spends at the gym or in P.E that effects their lives the most it is the other 23 hours in the day that are the most important. Through my P.E program we are still going to focus on our basic skills and games that one would think of but we are also going to talk about how this is affecting our bodies and what can we do outside of the gym to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. Each month I, along with your children, will come up with some fitness goals for outside of school they will try to achieve in order to receive an end of the month reward for the entire class.
Finally, I would like to talk to you about your involvement in your child’s education. I want to take this opportunity to invite you into my gym any time that you please, to either observe your child or even partake in the activity that we are doing on that day. As their parent you are their number one supporter and who better to be cheering them on than you! I know that with your support we will have a fun filled year. If you ever have any concerns or words of encouragement always know that my door is open. If you need to contact me at the school I will be available from 7:00am-8:00am and12:45pm-1:15pm. If for some reason you cannot reach me during these times feel free to leave a message or email me.
Again I just want to say how excited I am to be your child’s new P.E teacher and I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us all!
